Slide Request Appointment Microchipping for Dogs and Cats Because they mean the world to you.

Slide Microchipping Every year, countless pets are separated from their owners because of theft, escape, accident, or natural disaster. Unfortunately, many don’t get the hoped-for heartwarming reunion because they lack identification. A collar and identification tags are always the first line of defense, but these items can break or slip off, or their information becomes illegible or outdated. Only a microchip can ensure your pet’s safe return.

Slide Are Microchips Safe? Microchip implantation is easy, affordable, and quick, and can take place as an outpatient appointment. The procedure is relatively painless, although some animals experience momentary discomfort because of the large-gauge needle needed to insert the chip. Fortunately, this can be alleviated with tasty treats and praise!

After the chip is implanted, our team will explain how you register the unique number in your name, to ensure you’ll be contacted if your missing pet is located.
Microchip complications are extremely rare and typically related to implantation error (e.g., the chip comes through the skin or migrates from the original implantation site). And, despite internet rumors, microchips are not known to cause cancer. The body’s natural reaction is to form scar tissue around the microchip, leaving the tiny device fixed, harmless, and maintenance-free.

Does your pet need a microchip? Or, do you need help with your pet’s microchip registration? Contact the Veterinary Medical Center of Indian River County.
